It was the first game to feature the name V8 Supercars in its title and was the first in a series of three games that would be released with such branding. In 2002, V8 Supercars: Race Driver, the fourth game in Codemasters' series, was released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and Windows. It featured cars loosely based on the Ford AU Falcon and Holden VT Commodore that were used in V8 Supercars at the time. The third instalment of Codemasters' TOCA Touring Car series, TOCA World Touring Cars, released in 2000, was available for the PlayStation and Game Boy Advance. The game featured multiple camera angles with which to race and supported the use of a force-feedback racing wheel. The physics model of the game was created with input from Dick and Steven Johnson. It featured 25 drivers of what was then known as V8 Supercars as well as four tracks: Oran Park Raceway, Sandown Raceway, Queensland Raceway and Mount Panorama. This was followed by Dick Johnson V8 Challenge, released for Windows in December 1999. Players took part in a series of races around the Mount Panorama Circuit, with prize money being used to upgrade the car or change the team manager and pit crew. The game included a Holden Commodore-based and a Ford Falcon-based car, with the Holden Racing Team's 1996 livery being used on one of the Commodore-based cars. The game was endorsed by the Holden Racing Team, and its drivers from the 1995 Bathurst 1000- Peter Brock, Tomas Mezera, Craig Lowndes and Greg Murphy-were featured in the game, along with cut scenes from the race. It featured real-life video from the Mount Panorama Circuit with the virtual cars superimposed over the top. Touring Car Champions, released by Torus Games and Virtual Sports Interactive for Windows in June 1997, was the first game to be based on Australian touring car racing. In 2017, Supercars launched an esports competition, now known as the Supercars Eseries, using Forza Motorsport 6 and Forza Motorsport 7 until 2018 and iRacing from 2019. From 2011 to 2014, an online championship sanctioned by Supercars was contested on iRacing. Several of these games were officially licensed by Supercars. I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for an awesome time killer. There have been numerous video games which have included the drivers, teams, cars and circuits from the Supercars Championship, the leading touring car category in Australia. V8 Race Manager 2017 is available on Android and iOS. It’s simple, yet demands careful decision making. Overall, I’m quite pleased with the way BeerMogul Games have managed to capture the strategic part of racing. It’s quite a handy feature especially when you have a big gap to the driver in front. Depending on your performance, the game rewards you time bonuses in the race. The occasional mini game pops up to keep you entertained. V8 Race Manager 2017 is not just about strategy though. However, that meant I had to stop more often for fuel and tires. But, soon I found out that going aggressive was key to winning races. It took me a couple of races to get a hang of it. You can also select whether you’d like your driver to conserve fuel until the next pit window or go all out and attack. Tires last for a certain duration- the softs will wear out faster, thus requiring you to pit. Keep in mind, more fuel equals more weight which makes you slower. You also get to select the amount of fuel. The game provides you with either hard or soft tires along with an optional wet weather set. ![]() You can then workout your race strategy depending on your innovations. ![]() You race against legends like Purrrrcat, Winecup, Cooltard, Mofster, Courtknee, Goosebergen among others, if you get the reference. Upgrade your Race Engineer with these and your innovations will last longer giving you an advantage over your rivals. The higher up the order you finish, the more SuperBux points your receive. Innovations like Aerodynamics, Tire Wear, Fuel Efficiency, Exhaust and Fuel Boost can be bought using cash. After completing a race you are awarded some cash depending on where you finish. You start your career as rookie with a backmarker team. V8 Race Manager 2017 perfectly emulates this. Likewise, tire choice, fuel load and pit stops are crucial. Like any motorsport, race strategy is extremely important. For years, the series has been dominated by Ford and Holden with Nissan and Volvo joining in recent years. It’s basically an FIA touring car series based in Australia and features homegrown V8 saloon cars. It’s a racing strategy game for mobile devices and is based on the V8 Supercars Championship from down under. Today, I’m reviewing V8 Race Manager 2017 for Android and iOS.
